Project Description
LeftField was hired to manage the planning, design and construction of replacing the 1923 Thurgood Marshall Middle School due to overcrowding and deteriorated conditions. Through an extensive Feasibility study, several Brookline Street parcels were selected by eminent domain for the new Thurgood Marshall Middle School given their proven viability and low level of disruption to the community.
The MSBA and the City of Lynn voters ultimately approved the $92 million project to build a 181,647 SF school to house 1,100 students. The school was designed for flexibility to provide the ability to accommodate additional students through converting specialty spaces to classrooms should student population demand change. The project cost included land acquisition costs and the abatement and demolition of the existing school and associated site restoration.
