Project Description

In 2022, the Town of Agawam selected LeftField as the OPM for the High School Feasibility Study Project, and in March 2023, Flansburgh Associates were selected as the Designer. The current High School was originally built in 1955 and has since been added on to as needed throughout the years, now creating an expansive and cumbersome one-story building on a sprawling rural site. Security issues, outdated design, complicated layouts, classroom sizes and abnormally large corridors are now hindering the educational programs and prevent students from focusing on their goals. The school is deeply rooted in Sports and Arts, and the building needs to be updated to support those programs as well as integrating added plans for Pre-K, science and technology. The Town’s most recent school

renovation and construction project was done in 1975, followed by an upgrade to the High School Athletic Field and Locker Rooms in 2018. In June of 2024, the Town voted “yes” for the project to move forward, and the project team got started on finalizing a design that would create the updated learning opportunities that students needed, while being fiscally responsible. The current plan is for the Community Wing of the school to open in December 2027, the Academic Wing in Fall of 2028 and the final site work completed in Spring 2029.
